adidas Consortium x Norse Projects: Torsion TRDC
26 . 10 . 19

One of the adidas Consortium partners to join in the adidas celebration of Torsion is Danish fashion brand Norse Projects, who also operate an equally pioneering apparel and sneaker store under the name of Norse Store. Founded in 2004 by Anton Juul, Mikkel Grønnebæk and Tobia Sloth, it has since been recognised numerous times and by numerous publications as one of the most revered and distinctive Scandinavian brands of all time. Norse Projects are old friends of adidas, and in 2017 brought their refined approach to the outdoors-oriented adidas Terrex range, with a highly sought-after version of the Agravic trail running shoe.

For their latest team-up, Norse Projects once again turn their attentions to one of the more rugged runners from the adidas stable, in the form of the Torsion TRDC: an updated take on the Treadiac model which first appeared towards the turn of the millennium. The original Treadiac was tooled up to offer optimum performance for winter workouts and the new TRDC is a painstakingly faithful update of the silhouette, materials and technologies that made the original such a lost gem of the adidas back catalogue. The EVA midsole features an ADIPRENE heel component and sits, of course, above the Torsion System. The uppers are constructed from a blend of mesh and synthetic materials with an overall result that feels firmly rooted in the future-facing design approach of the late 90s. For their take on the Torsion TRDC, Norse Projects let these defining functional features take centre-stage, with a stripped-back colour palette that speaks to engineering excellence and a Scandinavian sensibility in equal measure.

The adidas Consortium x Norse Projects: Torsion TRDC launches at limitEDitions Barcelona on Saturday 26th October.

adidas Consortium ZX Torsion x Packer
19 . 10 . 19

The Packer x adidas Consortium ZX Torsion “Mega Violet” tells the story of the meadow violet’s transformation from a proud symbol of nature's beauty to a corrupted byproduct of its environment. While the gradient purple stripes remain the same from the first shoe to the second, the colour palette surrounding them becomes polluted with dark, muddy tones that effectively mutate its identity from something pure and natural to something twisted and aggressive.

The “Mega Violet" comes to life through a rich combination of premium pigskin and hairy suede contrasted by black nubuck and a plum-coloured mesh underlay. Outfitted with translucent outsole panels, nubuck lace dubraes and a modified heel pull-tab, the newly introduced Boost-equipped model gets some additional personalized touches by way of co-branded tongue loops and graphic-adorned insoles.

The adidas Consortium ZX Torsion x Packer launches at limitEDitions Barcelona on Saturday 19th October 2019.

ADIDAS CONSORTIUM GARDENING CLUB
12 . 10 . 19

The adidas Consortium Workshop is a place for exploring the pure story of adidas Originals. Designed ‘without affiliation or association’ by the brand’s in-house team, the apparel and footwear showcases their pioneering outside-the-box creative and technical thinking. The resulting collections are an ode to both the functional considerations and cultural touchstones at the heart of adidas Originals.

For FW19, the adidas Consortium Workshop have carefully tended to their latest creation: the adidas Gardening Club. The good-humoured, gardening-inspired capsule collection is a clarion call to all the like-minded ‘avant-gardeners’ out there. It is for those who lovingly nurture lawns and meticulously scatter seeds. But the range of apparel, accessories and footwear also offers a fresh take on modern, outdoors and hiking trends, resulting in ‘horti-couture’ that can move effortlessly from the lawn to the streets.

Three footwear styles take center-stage, presented in a color palette that blends floral bursts of bright blues, purples and orange with a well-grounded array of earthy tones. Like every piece in the collection, their names will resonate with true gardening aficionados. The specially created Response Hoverturf is a shoe ready for almost any terrain and available in two iterations: a more understated grey version for everyday gardening tasks and a sleekly blacked-out version with lace cover panel for more covert, night-time pruning operations. Rounding out the footwear offering is the Novaturbo, another brand-new style which introduces open elements for the ease of slipping on and off, inspired by some of the most innovative mid-2000s designs from the adidas archive.

Even the most green-fingered wearer will be satisfied with the amount of ripstop nylon at hand and will find plenty of pockets for tools and fuel.  That airy feel continues into the apparel offering, with each piece built for breathability: from the asymmetric mesh panels of the Sonicdrive vest to the above-knee zip that enables the Sonicdrive pants to transform into, well, Sonicdrive shorts.

The adidas Consortium Gardening Club Launches at at limitEDitions Barcelona on Saturday 12th October 2019.

adidas Consortium ZX Torsion x Footpatrol
11 . 10 . 19

This year has seen numerous adidas Consortium releases paying tribute to the ZX running series and its unique Torsion System technology, which debuted exactly thirty years ago. It’s a technology that has since become a mainstay in the adidas stable, appearing across numerous performance and lifestyle shoes over the subsequent decades. By using a TPU arch to bridge the heel and forefoot, Torsion allows the front and rear of the foot to operate and adapt to surfaces independently.

The latest Consortium partner to bring its distinctive sensibility to this celebratory series of releases is London’s Footpatrol: a go-to destination for the most coveted footwear in the capital city since 2002.  The store quickly became a hub of knowledge, creativity and community within the sneaker world – something reflected in their offering of new and classic styles, limited editions, Japanese exclusives and rare deadstock.  For their latest collaboration with adidas, the Footpatrol team brought a distinctly London vibe to the ZX Torsion: a shoe that combines the Torsion System with the latest BOOST cushioning for an undoubtedly contemporary look and feel, while still retaining the qualities that made the ZX range so special in the first place.

With the shoe’s release coinciding with the Notting Hill Carnival, Footpatrol felt like it was an opportune moment to channel some of that carnival spirit into the shoe through the use of ‘boxfresh’ shades of white and popping bursts of neon yellow that appear on the shoe itself. With over two million revellers taking to the streets of West London every August Bank Holiday, Notting Hill Carnival is a true London institution, and one that holds a special place in the hearts of the Footpatrol team: a time and place where the very best styles, moves and music – three things that have long influenced sneaker culture - come together under one joyous banner.

For the release of the Footpatrol ZX Torsion then, adidas and Footpatrol created a three-part documentary that takes an in-depth look at one of Notting Hill Carnival’s most enduring and well-loved acts, the Ebony Steel Band. Founded in 1969, the Caribbean and British group have been bringing the vibrant sounds of steelpan drumming to Europe and beyond for generations. It is this generational legacy that the videos focus on, beginning with a look at the personalities, histories and intrinsic connections to the carnival that have brought the band to where they are today. The second part of the series follows the band as they prepare in the buildup to carnival while the finale inevitably features the carnival performance itself, capturing everything that makes carnival so special in the process - from the floats to the food, from the sound systems to the street-style.

The adidas Consortium ZX Torsion x Footpatrol launches at limitEDitions Barcelona on Friday 11th October 2019.
